ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Vancouver Hockey School's power skating program is the most highly respected skating program in the lower mainland. Over the past year, players property of every NHL organization have taken part in the program including 33 NHL draft picks, 3 NHL 1st Rd picks, and 3 WHL scoring champions in 3 consecutive years. In addition, countless minor hockey players, junior teams, associations, and hockey academies continue to use our program throughout British Columbia.

The power skating program is structured to enhance and improve a players overall skating ability in a limited amount of time. Through effective drill progression and instructor demonstration, the program is geared towards teaching game simulated hockey skating. Session drills focus on tying skating mechanics into game situations. Students are taught when and where to use certain skating techniques within the game.

Arm Swing                        Stride Mechanics       Resistance Training

Based on the students ability, the program breaks down crucial skating components emphasising proper technique, form, body position, leg recovery, stride, counter balancing, and arm swing providing the player with better balance, stride efficiency, explosiveness and power with and without the puck. Further, students are taught effective ways to open ice carry the puck with speed, protect the puck while skating, stick handle, and effective techniques involved with shooting-in-stride.

Vancouver Hockey School's power skating camps and sessions are taught in varying degrees based on the skaters age, ability and level of play. This helps insure each player advances at the correct pace while attending each camp or team session.

State of the art equipment such as resistance harnesses, over-speeds, tandem-toes and parachutes are used in each program in order to improve students overall skating power, agility and quickness.
